Just a few thoughts…
I respect the research at Pro Football Focus, but how can you have the Broncos “No Fly Zone” go from number 1 to number 4? You have the top rated corner in Chris Harris Jr. and the third ranked corner in Aquib Talib? Solid safety play from Darrien Stewart and TJ Ward along with a great rookie campaign from Justin Simmons also adding to the quality of the No Fly Zone. Wasn’t this the unit that held Tom Brady and the Pats to a career low 177 yards last season? You know Junior, Talib and company will use this to stoke the fire.
As the trade deadline approaches, we asked the question on The Jim Davis Show: do the Rockies need an arm (starting or bullpen) or a bat? Some are freaking out that the Rockies didn’t go after Tigers outfielder JD Martinez. He was traded to NL West rival and wildcard leader Arizona. Offense isn’t the problem for a team that is third in the MLB in batting average. Martinez against the division’s left handed pitching would have been nice, but the Rockies have hit lefties pretty well this season. The DBacks had to send some of their better young prospects to Detroit, a price the Rockies can’t pay for a rental. The bullpen should remain the target area for the trade deadline.
It didn’t look good for David Dahl to play with the Rockies this season, but it looks like things have changed. Dahl is doing a rehab stint in Lancaster, California as he continues to overcome his rib injury. Manager Bud Black led the media to believe that Dahl wouldn’t make it back to the big league roster this season, but MLB.com’s Thomas Harding says Dahl feels great and a return is possible.
Finally, the need for high school officials has never been greater. Statewide, over 1,400 officials from last year aren’t coming back this season. Locally, the search for young officials is underway. If you love sports, then officiating might be for you. You can contact District 51 AD Paul Cain to find out more.
