If you’re a Colorado sports fan, this has been quite a week!
First Down: How the Broncos’ fortunes have turned! They’ve gone from possibly firing Vj to being in the hunt for the wildcard. Forcing seven turnovers in the last two games has been a huge reason they’ve picked up wins against the LA Chargers and Pittsburgh. It also helps when your quarterback doesn’t turn it over and can deliver in the red zone. OC Bill Musgrave has been getting Case Keenum out of the pocket more and it has certainly made him look more comfortable. It also doesn’t hurt when Phillip Lindsay is rushing for over 100 yards a game and a touchdown. Give Broncos offensive line coach Sean Kugler a ton of credit for the job he’s done with that patchwork offensive line. Broncos make it three in a row with a 31-10 win at Cincy on Sunday. Catch it 96.1 KSTR and 1490 The TEAM in Rifle starting at 9 AM.
Second Down: I was loving the beat-down the Nuggets put in the LA Lakers Tuesday night! Denver’s defense was nasty again and the bench continues to come up big night after night. Mason Plumlee, Malik Beasley and Trey Lyles once again were huge off the bench for Denver. It’s to finally see some return on investment on Paul Milsap. He continues to set the tone for the Nuggets’ Defense and has become the scoring threat Denver thought they were getting when the signed him.
Third Down: And how about the Avs! A Colorado sports fan could get spoiled with the Broncos on a two game winning streak, Nuggets are four game winning and the Avs on a five game winning streak. Great win at Nashville to end Colorado’s 11 game regular season losing streak to the Preds. Tyson Jost continues to pick up his scoring pace, just the complementary scoring the Avalanche need to go along with the MGM line.
Fourth Down: With the good also comes the bad. Rough end to the season for Palisade and Montrose’s football teams. The Dogs couldn’t stop the player that killed them in last year’s semi-final showdown. Raef Ruel equaled his three touchdown effort last season against Palisade to lead Palmer Ridge back to the state title game. The Bears’ offensive and defensive lines controlled the line of scrimmage. Dogs QB Cameron Tucker saw way too many Palmer Ridge D-linemen in the backfield to be effective running the ball. Montrose faced the same problem with Loveland. Loveland’s lines also controlled things up front against the Indians. It was still a great year for both programs, with big expectations for 2019. One other thing. Don’t miss the Warrior Challenge boys basketball tournament that starts tomorrow (11-29-18) at Central High School. It’s a great chance to get an early preview of the season. The TEAM Sports Network will have coverage Saturday at 11:15 AM
