Great to be back and here we go!!
FIRST DOWN: I actually watched cricket when we went to the UK. It was on every restaurant and bar we went to, so I couldn’t avoid it. I can’t say I developed a greater appreciation or understanding, but I did try to learn a little more about it. I can’t believe that it can go on for days! And we complain about football or baseball games that go four hours!
SECOND DOWN: Nice to see MLB players realize how good David Dahl is. The former GJ Rockie and Pioneer League Player of the Year was voted in by his peers to his first All-Star game. He’s 10th in batting average and 8th in triples in all of MLB and is also a plus defender in left or center. Super good guy that’s finally been able to avoid the injury bug.
THIRD DOWN: The recent Twitter campaign to change the GJ Rockies’ name made one good point. The local Rockies need to find a more unique name. The Rockies are the only team in the Pioneer League with the same name as the parent club. Should it be the “Humpback Chubs”? No, and you can’t tell me the guys who thought of it weren’t thinking of the slang usage of the name. But the Peaches, Mustangs, Whistle Pigs, or Headless Chickens would be better names.
FOURTH DOWN: In our interview with Palisade football coach Joe Ramunno, it sure sounds like the Bulldogs might look to take more advantage of quarterback Cameron Tucker’s arm. The Dogs will always be a run first team, but Ramunno says they plan on using more run-pass option plays and that could be a big weapon for his All-State QB.
