Happy almost Christmas! Here we go…
1ST DOWN:
The holiday playoff hopes of Broncos fans dashed like a child whose parent forgot to include the batteries for that super sweet remote control car! George Kittle is still running wide open against the Denver D! The old “can’t cover the tight end” issue bit the Broncos again. I thought Sua Cravens was going to fix this problem. It also doesn’t help with your offense can’t run the ball and your free agent QB can make accurate throws or the young Bronco wideouts can’t get open. Case Keenum can’t be in the Christmas sprit when his head coach says he needs to make more plays and VJ is also spending a chunk of his presser talking about how great Baker Mayfield is! More coal in our stockings this weekend: Browns 27-Broncos 13. Catch it on 96.1 KSTR and 1490 The TEAM in Rifle with pregame at 4 PM Saturday.
2ND DOWN:
It’s wait and see on if Jeff Bridich gets that big free agent bat he says he’s looking for. There’s a lot of talk about making a deal with Seattle for Carlos Santana. That would be smooth! But I would like to see a Wilson Ramos signing first. Colorado’s catcher barely hit over .200 this season and Ramos (.306 and 70 RBI’s) would be a huge upgrade. Don’t get me wrong: I like Santana, but they have options at first base. They need a major upgrade behind the dish.
3RD DOWN:
On the show, we talked about the non-playoff bowls games we would want to watch. I have my focus on the Fiesta Bowl with Central Florida taking on LSU. Here’s the Knights chance to make their point that the college playoff committee should have given them more consideration. Either UCF backs up their “we’re undefeated and we got shafted” mantra or LSU reminds people why that committee didn’t consider them in the first place.
4TH DOWN:
Both Colorado Mesa basketball teams are off to Metro State and Chadron this wekend. The CMU women swept their games with UCCS and Mines to stay undefeated in the RMAC. Former GJ Tiger Tori Catlett had a huge defensive game against Mines with a career high seven blocked shots. When the Mavs play at Chadron Sunday, they’ll face former Fruita Monument stand-out Angelique Gall. Gall is second in scoring for the Eagles at 7 per game. The Maverick men split with a win against UCCS and an overtime loss to Mines. CMU had a 10 point lead with 2:27 left and couldn’t hold it. I think last year, this team would have looked at that loss as a morale victory. This year’s edition will use it for fuel going forward. The TEAM/CMU Sports Network will the Metro State games starting at 3:45 PM, with pregame Sunday starting at 3:15 PM.
