The Broncos are out of the bye week as they get ready to go to LA to face the Chargers. Denver’s record isn’t healthy at 3-6, but at least their getting a few players back with the return of Darrien Stewart, DaShaun Hamilton and others. The loss of Matt Paradis at center is huge for a line that has been struggling in pass protection. Would like to think the Broncos get a win in LA, but it’s not going to happen: LA CHARGERS 28 BRONCOS 17. Catch that game on 96.1 KSTR and 1490 The TEAM in Rifle with pregame noon Sunday.
With five straight losses, CU coach Mike McIntyre is clearly on the hot seat. Reports out of Boulder have AD Rick George canning Coach Mac, but George has denied it. When a single ten win season is all you can hang your hat on, Coach Mac might be dusting off his resume. Could George turn to OC Darrin Chiaverini or maybe going back to CSU’s recent past with Jim McElwain? We’ll see.
Palisade, Fruita Monument and Montrose on to the second round of the 3A and 4A playoffs. Palisade gets a Mead team that thumped Evergreen in the first round. Mead lost by one to Evergreen earlier in the season. The Bulldogs had to rally to beat Evergreen by a point in Palisade’s homecoming win over the Cougars. Mavericks running back Nate Bailey has almost a 1,000 yards and 16 touchdowns. Mead likes to spread their carries among four different backs. The Dogs have one of the best players in 3A in QB Cam Tucker. Tucker had over 200 yards and five rushing TD’s in their win over Ft. Morgan. The TEAM Sports Network will have Saturday’s game at 12:30 PM. If Palisade and Palmer Ridge win, that semi-final will be at Stocker in a rematch of last year’s semi-finals.
Fruita Monument’s defense and running game helped them get past Central in their 4A opener. Treyton Queen led the ground game with three rushing scores. Loveland’s Zach Weinmaster averages over 137 yards per game on the ground for the 11-0 Indians. Interesting note: Loveland’s coach is Wayne McGuinn, the former head coach at Adams State. 1100 KNZZ will have that game this Saturday with pregame at 12:30 PM. If Fruita Monument and Montrose win, those two will meet in the semis at Montrose. Speaking of the Indians, their defense set the tempo in their first round win over Dakota Ridge. Third seeded Greeley West is led on the ground by Derek West, who has 14 TD’s this season. Kick-off for that game is Friday at 6:30 PM. We’re working on bringing Montrose fans that game.
