Just a few thoughts…
Remember the old saying “if you have two quarterbacks, you don’t have one”? That’s the situation the Broncos find themselves in as they go through the pre-season. Perhaps Paxton Lynch takes advantage of a chance to play with the number ones against San Francisco. If he plays well and Trevor Siemian struggles against the 49er back-ups, maybe Vance Joseph has his answer. If both play as sub-par as they did against the Bears, Siemian is going to win the job by default. The Green Bay game is the dress rehearsal for the regular season and the Broncos need an answer.
The CHSAANow.com preseason high school football polls are out and the Grand Valley has a team in the 4A and 3A top ten. Fruita Monument is seventh in 4A and Palisade is eighth in 3A. The Wildcats returns one of the state’s top rushers in Braden Graham and looks primed for a deep 4A playoff run. Palisade always reloads and they have the talents of Austin Bernal to help their back-field. Those two square off September 14th and could a match-up of the two best teams in the area. Central’s defense could be the difference for them this season as they return their top six tacklers. That unit will have to help an offense that loses talented QB EJ Barrera to Colorado Mesa and wideout Darrion Alton to Southern Utah. The TEAM Sports Network will have Fruita Monument at Montrose August 25th as the Wildcats look to snap a two game losing streak to the Indians. Central and Palisade battle for the WarDog Trophy on the 25th on 95.5 The Monkey.
Pat Neshak hasn’t been exactly what the Rockies were hoping for, but they got it right in trading for catcher Jonathan Lucroy. The veteran catcher has been a major upgrade offensively and is still one of the best defensive catchers in the game. With Lucroy replacing the light hitting Tony Wolters and with Cargo showing signs of life, it can only help the Colorado offense. The return of Chad Bettis from his battle from cancer has also been almost like making a trade.
I take this time to say goodbye to Brandon Droz. Boats n’ Droz has left the TEAM locker room to join The Game in Portland. Brandon was a hard working, talented part of our group and we’ll miss him. Best of luck to our little buddy!
