Just a few thoughts…
Congrats to former Fruita High School state wrestling champion Joe Silva! The three time state champion will go into the CHSAA Hall of Fame in January. Joe wasn’t just a great wrestler, he was also the Wildcats QB in two state title games and played in a state baseball championship game. He also earned the Bronze Star will serving in Vietnam and was a coach and teacher in D-51 for 29 years. I was lucky enough to have him for a teacher and as my 9th grade basketball coach. Couldn’t have happened to a better man! You can hear our conversation with Coach Joe in the 9AM of our podcast from 10-25.
After scoring 70 points last week at Adams State, how many points will the Colorado Mesa offensive score this Saturday against New Mexico Highlands? Last year, the Mavs dropped 84 on the Cowboys at Highlands and the offense is clicking ever better right now. CMU is 7th in Super Region 4 and seem to be in great shape for another RMAC title and a return to the D-2 playoffs. Catch our interview with Coach Martin on our Tuesday podcast.
The Central Warriors football team won’t be heading to the post-season this season, but the Warriors have to feel good about how they played last week against top ranked Ponderosa. The defense had one of their best games of the season. An overtime loss to Palisade and a one point loss to one of the best teams in 4A in Fruita Monument are the two games that have come back to haunt Central. The Warrior defense has improved by leaps and bounds over last season.
